Sebitoli Wetland Kibale is located in south western Uganda in Kabarole district, just 12km away from Fort Portal town. Part of Sebitoli Wetland Kibale found in Busoro sub county had been allocated to private developers, to construct houses. As a result, after embracing the environment management plan, the encroachers were evicted.
The wetland is home to many plants bird species and primates like monkeys, that started attracting tourists. Due to the presence of tourists, many community members have set up craft markets to earn some income. Because the crafts are carefully hand-made with the beauty of nature in mind, visitors alway yearn to go with some as souvenirs.
The Sebitoli Forest Camp offers forest guided walks and a chance to encounter primates like the red colobus monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and the vervet monkeys. Visitors might also spot variety of aquatic, forest and savannah birds as they enjoy the views of Mpanga River.
While at Sebitoli wetland one can’t miss a visit to the nearby Kibale Forest National Park. Kibale National Park harbors over 350 plant species, 71 mammal species, 13 primates and 372 bird species of the 1,042 total birds. Kibale Forest has one of the highest diversity and concentration of primates in Africa. It is home to a large number of endangered chimpanzees, as well as the endangered red colobus monkey and the rare and vulnerable L’Hoest’s monkey. In Rwanda, Nyungwe National Park is a reciprocal of Kibale, home to Chimpanzee in Rwanda and many other primates.
