Lake Nyamirima Cottages boasts eight cottages set under bandas, all looking out over the Lake Nyamirima that slopes down to the almost-always Lakeside forest and savannah, where colobus and chimpanzees abound.
Our guests stay in a golden-hued cottage with gleaming hardwood floors. Staying under canvas is one of the most romantic and exciting things to do on safari in Africa. You hear the sounds, you feel the wind from Lake Nyamirima and the forest, and you smell the rain before it comes. But this isn’t roughing it either: the tents are protected by a thick thatch roof and feature en-suite bathrooms with running water, hot showers, and flush toilets. Tea or coffee is brought to you in the morning so you can lie in bed or sit on your veranda and drink in the view before the day begins.
Our main restaurant’s soaring thatched roof is where our guests gather around the chunky dining tables or sprawl in the comfy armchairs and sofas telling stories and sharing experiences. Lit by lanterns and open to the elements on one side, at Lake Nyamirima Cottages you really feel like you are touching the wild. Get out and walk – there are miles of trails cut through the lakeside forests that crisscross the savanna.
Lake Nyamirima Cottages derives its name from Lake Nyamirima Crater Lake, where it lies. The lake was called Nyamirima, meaning; “Mother of Darkness” because of her dark water view seen from the top of the cliff. The darkness is due to the forest cover. The forest also provides shelter to a variety of monkeys and birds.
This is only 18 km on Fort Portal-Kamwengye Road, 1 km off the tarmac road on your right to Kamwengye, 3Km to Kibale Forest National Park.
Uganda’s Kibale forest and Bwindi forest are the best places to go for primate safaris in Africa. We ensure you get the very best experience, with private guiding and luxury intimate camps in locations chosen for their proximity to wildlife and exclusivity.
