Located near Kibale Forest Park head quarters at Isunga lies Isunga lodge. The lodge sits on an elevated position, with magnificent views of the rainforest, the majestic peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains and all the way to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake George.
Around 50 volcanic crater lakes can be found in the surrounding area, making this the ideal base for sightseeing. Several other activities such as chimpanzee trekking and other primate watching, bird watching, hiking and mountain biking, can also be done. The lodge is approximately 20 minutes’ drive away from the chimpanzee tracking start point at Kanyanchu.
Seven peaceful, secluded cottages are dotted over the hillside and guests can enjoy wandering around through the large grounds. Guests can also enjoy a wilder and more natural environment, with abundant birdlife around, perfect for nature-lovers.
Please note that since the lodge is spread over a hillside it may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.
Accommodation at Isunga Lodge
The lodge has seven (7) ensuite cottages that are well spaced, so guests can relax and enjoy the peaceful environment in a private setting surrounded by nature. All cottages have outside seating with lovely views of Kibale forest and are equipped with hot showers and flush toilets. Lighting is provided by solar power. Charging points for cameras etc. are located in the main restaurant.
One of the reasons we chose this location was for the stunning panoramic views, which are best appreciated from their large, comfortable restaurant. It’s a perfect place to relax, read a book or have a drink from the bar or use the free Wi-Fi.
As keen cooks themselves, the quality of food they serve is really important to them. Their meals are prepared using fresh ingredients from their own garden, combined with great produce from the local community. All dietary requirements can be catered for.
Join them for a sundowner while watching the sunset over the Rwenzori mountain ranges then sit by the campfire under the stars, share stories of your day with fellow travellers and listen for the sounds of elephants and chimpanzees from the forest below.
